Productive

I got everything I wanted to get done today. Love it when that happens.
I finished making the quilt top. Woo hoo. Ready to baste, quilt & bind tomorrow.

And for the first time I hemmed 2 skirts and a dress. I had to take 11 inches off the bottom of all of them.
They aren't perfect but they are wearable, and that's all I need.

Have a fabulous rest of your weekend,

Progress

So yesterday I managed to cut all the pieces out.
And this morning I finished sewing them all together. Then it was time to head out to the shops. It was nuts - but I managed to pick up 2 blades.
As soon as we got home I started trimming and sewing.
I only managed 3 rows before my shoulder started hurting - so I'll be back at it tomorrow or Monday.
Do you have any crafty plans this weekend?

A crazy week

So last Saturday I went to a Thermomix Easter class and it was fabulous. It has totally inspired me to make my own hot cross buns again this year.
Then Sunday we had Easter a week early as my Mum was due to go into hospital on Tuesday and we didn't know when she'd be out. I made pizzas for lunch and a raspberry & pistachio cake for dessert.
Tuesday I was up at 5am to take her to hospital after only getting an hours sleep.
Then up to hospital yesterday to visit her. I had a bit of a panic attack & nearly passed out. I think it was partly due to having a cold and also seeing my mum hurting. She was diagnosed with Cancer in January and is only beginning her treatment this week. It's going to be a long road - but one that I'll be there beside her for.
Everyone is out doing something today - work, school, course......so I thought I'd start on making bubby's quilt. Hoping the mama likes it.
I picked my fabrics and started cutting. Halfway through I noticed my blade is really dull.
So I've stopped for now. Kicking myself that I don't have another one laying around here.
Better try and get one today or else I'll have to wait until Saturday. And that won't be fun at all.
My car died this morning. So I have to use the work car to go pick up the kids from work & school. Then drop one at shopping and then head back up to the hospital to get Mum and then back to pick up the kidlet.
And make dinner somewhere in there - and I mustn't forget the milk.
Just feeling exhausted. Can't shake this cold. So I am really looking forward to the long weekend!

Happy Easter. Hopefully I'll be back next week with a quilt. (Crossing fingers)

A great way to start the week

Finally my parcels arrived this morning - both at once.  I got some knits, some flannel and some cotton. All were goodies I have been waiting on to finish all the bubby sewing.
So, I hopped straight to it - I made some more hats.
And finished the bibs too. I used a pattern by Heather Bailey.
Now all that's left to do is a quilt and I think I've finally decided on which pattern I want to make.
Here's to a productive week!

Aeroplane Bag - pattern by Sew Sweetness

I was lucky enough to test another pattern for Sara. This time it was the Aeroplane bag. I was so excited. The minute I saw it - I knew I just had to make it. And it didn't disappoint. The instructions were clear. And I loved every minute of it.
I used fabrics from Lizzy House's "Constellations" collection. They are delish!
Inside - Tula Pinks "Birds and the Bees".
The bag has a zipper closure and two fabulous zip pockets inside.

Sara wrote this pattern as an alternative to Amy Butlers Weekender. And having made both - I can tell you it is much, much easier! No swear words this time!

I put my aeroplane bag next to my weekender - and they are roughly the same size. And the weekender has outside pockets and no internal ones.
Another plus is that there is no hand sewing in the lining. It's a big thumbs up for me!
I loved making this bag. From start to finish. Loved it. And I could have easily finished it in a day. (Unlike my Weekender)
If you want an overnight bag - I highly recommend this one. Sara's pattern is well written and well photographed. I am not the most experienced sewer - and I had no problems at all.
Thanks Sara - for another great pattern!!

A dress for my princess

Today I decided to try making my first dress. It's for my sweet girl.
I used this pattern, the Sis Boom Lucy Halter Dress
And the gorgeous fabric I bought by Sarah Watson.
It turned out pretty cute. Hope my baby girl loves it.

At the request of the mama

The mum to be contacted me to ask if I could make her a car seat blanket. I wasn't sure what she meant so she directed me to this site.
So I ran out to Spotlight to grab some fleece and got to work.

Now all I need to do is wait to see her so I can measure it against the car seat so I know where to cut the holes for the straps.

This little bubba is going to be very cozy through winter!

The littlest thing

As time goes by, and your children grow - you find it harder to remember just how small they were. I got a little reminder today.
I made a little baby hat using this tutorial
And it is so little. So so little.
I'm waiting on some knits to arrive so I just whipped one up out of an old tshirt. It is so cute. And so quick. Under an hour to cut and sew.
Another goodie to add to the basket

More baby sewing - part 3

Today I whipped up some Burp Cloths.
I picked up some towelling from Spotlight. Not bad at $5 a metre. They only had yellow - but it worked perfectly for the colour scheme.
Very simple - I just cut out some rectangles at 12" X 24" of both fabric & towelling. Sewed them right sides together.  Flipped them round the right way - and top stitched.
I'm waiting on some white flannel to arrive to finish off the bibs.
So I may start cutting out what I can for the quilt. I'm waiting on some other fabrics too for it.

Baby sewing

I bought this pattern and decided on which fabrics I was going to use, and spent a couple of hours yesterday sewing it together.
I used a cute cotton stripe for the outside.
And some yummy chevron flannel for inside.
Now bubby can get wrapped up like a burrito!

Sewing plans

Today I have a plan to sew. Whether or not it will happen, I'm yet to find out.
Things didn't go my way yesterday with alot of unpicking. ALOT!
So I am hoping I don't do anything silly today and just get it done.

Also I have bought a new swaddler pattern. The last one wasn't very good. Hoping this one is better. If all goes well I'm hoping to cut it out today.

Yes - big plans indeed.

What's happening at your house today?

Paparazzi Bag by Sew Sweetness

I was given the wonderful opportunity to test out a new pattern by Sara of Sew Sweetness called the Paparazzi Bag.
I put my hand straight up to test this one as I have wanted a nice camera bag for a long time.
It is a nice big size. Plenty of room for everything. I love the sweet pockets on the front.
And the zipper pocket in the back is awesome.
I love the peek of purple inside the pocket.
It's a nicely sized deep bag - with cushioned removable dividers. So clever.
See - plenty of room. The fabrics I used were Indie by Pat Bravo.

There was lots of pattern pieces - but Sara's pattern is very clear and easy to understand. I especially loved all of her hints!

Check out Sara's shop for the pattern . And her blog for some pure eye candy!
