Chilly pickles

It is cold today. Actually it has been for the past few days. Had to go out in the rain today and vote. Came home soaked. This is the view from my back door. The ground is so wet.
My kitties are keeping me warm. Violet only snuggles with me on the couch. She has been sweet company for me this week while I have been feeling unwell.
And Dash is always on my lap when I'm at the computer.

Last week I painted my nails. And as soon as I took the polish off I chopped my nails off. Does anyone else do that? It's like I get to a certain length and then have to hack them off. I do the same thing with my hair too.
My nail polishes won't be getting a workout anytime soon. My nails are very very short!!

I am still plugging along with the granny squares. I'm up to 3 now.
Kinda sick of the colours and need more wool. I don't think my technique is there yet but I think I am improving slightly.
And today I finally placed an order for some fabric for the Patchwork Prism Quilt-A-Long

I decided on using Anna Maria Horner's Innocent Crush and Loulouthi. I got all of it from Hawthorne Threads.
Can't wait until it arrives and I can start cutting. In the meantime I still have a lot on my to do list.
Maybe if I aim to cut something out tonight - I might get time to sew it together tomorrow. Maybe.

Hope you are having a super productive weekend -

A suprise in the honey jar

Poor little bee didn't want to let his honey go and stowed away in the jar.

I think I finally got it

The elusive granny square. I always come so close but am really so far. I even went to a crochet class. It just never clicked for me. And believe me I wanted it to.
My mum came around yesterday and I started giving her lists of what I'd like her to make for me and mentioned that I'd like her to show me how to crochet a granny  square. She said have you got a hook?
I scrambled around to find my knitting bag and everything was still in there.
I know there is mistakes in it but I'm really proud to have gotten to the end of it. Now I just need to practice practice practice. Let's just hope I remember how to start it.

The Slurpee Run

Can you believe it. I finally scrapped. Only 1 page. But it was fun to push some paper around again.
I used Studio Calico's Summer Camp kit. An oldie but a goodie. I am getting closer to using it all up. Wish I could say that for the rest of my scrap room.
Toady I'm waiting for my car to come back from the mechanics. Getting a towball fitted. The caravan dream is getting that little bit closer.
Have a fabulous weekend-

Curious Nature

Guess what was in my mailbox yesterday, that I didn't see until very late - my fabric parcel.
Oh was I super happy to see this. Mmm. Mmm. Mmm.
I ordered some Curious Nature. This lot is destined to be a duffel bag as a suprise for my hubby. So it may take a while to make as I'm going to have to  stuff it away whenever he is around.
Now I'm pining after the rest of Curious Nature. I love it. It is just as beautiful as I thought it would be. Can't wait to cut into it.

Have a happy Thursday xxx

Freshly baked

I had the urge to bake something today. So I grabbed a cookbook and thought I'd try something I haven't made before. I settled on an Apple Fruit Cake from Bill Granger's "Feed Me Now". I had to make a few adjustments as I didn't have all the ingredients. As it was cooking it smelled delicious. Apples, ginger and spice. Mmmm....
I love to bake.

It makes me happy.
Now the only thing that would make it better would be if my fabric arrived.

Hope you are having a Happy Wednesday - filled with something delicious.

End of break

So today was back to school for my kiddies. I was really unprepared. I tossed and turned last night - feeling fluey. And when I switched my alarm off, all I wanted to do was roll over and go back to sleep.
But I have much to do today, so I think I'll be having quite a few more of these....

Hope you are brighter than me this morning.
Have a Happy Monday xxx

Edited to add: Had to take a trip to Apple today as my daughter damaged her laptop - and while I was there I picked up a Mobee Magic Charger for the Magic Mouse. You plug the base station into your usb and put their battery pack into your mouse. And then when you finish with your mouse, place it on top and it charges. This is already making me happy as I am far too often scrambling around looking for batteries when I've run out in the middle of something.
A charge takes around 5 hours and your mouse is supposed to last 6 days. Well, I use mine alot so we'll have to see about that. You can find them here.

Zakka Style sew -along

I want to play along with the Zakka Style sew along, so I ear marked a couple of projects and went to Spotlight yesterday to see what I could find.
How hard is it to find what you are looking for in there. Especially when you don't know exactly what you are looking for. I swear I was in there for about an hour - just walking in circles.
Anyway - hopefully I did get the right things - although my zipper is 1 inch too short. Oops. Let's hope it doesn't make too much of a difference.
I'll soon find out.

Anyway - have a happy Friday!

A little treat

Something you probably don't know is that I am crazy about Hugh Fearnley- Whittingstall. I watch all his shows and LOVE them. I think he is fabulous.
So to treat myself I bought my very first River Cottage cookbook (which won't be the last) and Zakka Style. So many cute things to make. Very sweet.

Have you treated yourself to anything lovely lately?

The Love Quilt

That's much better than calling it the leftovers quilt, isn't it?
This quilt just caused me dramas from the start. And it has taken me forever to complete. I started the top in October last year. I just never loved it. It turned out too small. And I didn't have enough of what I wanted for the back as I cut before thinking.
Then I had dramas with the quilting. And the binding.
I'm just glad it's done.
It's not going to it's new home yet. So I'm just going to have to put up with it a little while longer.

But the good news is, it was the last of my unfinished projects. Hooray!! (Well, except for my queen quilt)
Now I can move onto something fun. Oohhh, what to make??

Sunday 8 April 2012

Easter Sunday

I thought I'd drop in quickly while my oranges are cooking.
I made another batch of Hot Cross buns on Friday - and they turned out much better. It's much easier when you have a pastry brush and a piping bag ;o)
And last night I whipped up some tags for the bunny bags. I used the same silhouette file that I did back here. This time around I made them smaller so that I could fit 3 on an 8.5 X 11 page.
Ooh my timer just went off. Back to the kitchen for me!!
Have a Happy Day

Happy Easter

Just stopping in to wish you and your family a safe and Happy Easter.
I'll be cooking up a storm over the next few days.....so I'll be back next week.
See you then.

The bunny bags

I was inspired by seeing some bunny ideas on the web, so yesterday I grabbed my silhouette and searched for a suitable bunny design. Cut that out and traced it onto some leftover fabrics. Whipped up some tote bags using some old fabric that my mum had given me and appliqued the bunnies on.
So all they cost me was a couple of bucks in thread. Awesome!!
I would have preferred using some cute easter egg material. But I am on a severe fabric diet, so the bright red will have to do. Still, turned out cute enough. And they'll do the job.

Hot Blob Buns

A bit of a disaster this morning. My cross mix was too runny. And I must have thrown out my pastry brush when we moved. So I had to try and spoon on the glaze that I had discovered had turned to toffee. Total disaster!
But luckily it's my first batch, so it looks like I'll be up early again tomorrow - and we'll be having them for breakfast again.
I may be sick of them before Easter ;o)
